Things that make you go Hmmm?

A few months ago I think I told you about the time my mom was over and she was identifying pop songs on the radio with relative ease and a matter of factness that surprised me.  Like "oh this is Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars."  Well, the other day she was listening to Lady Gaga again and I was like "seriously mom? you are listening to Lady Gaga?" and her response really surprised me.  She said she was listening to an interview with her and that she really liked what she had to say and that "she stood for something" and freedom of expression yadda yadda yadda and her songs were catchy.  Ok. Fair enough.  I agree.
But then I was cleaning out my dad's car yesterday and in the seat back pocket I found a Ke$ha cd.  Wow.  Nothing surprises me anymore.  Are my parents really cooler than I give them credit for?

Kid Rock

Kid Rock... the guy is so badass isn't he? Slept with a bunch of superstars, always poppin' bottles at the club, doing drugs in the VIP.  But he doesn't seem so badass if you say his name with a sing songy emphasis on the kid.  Kinda sounds like a children's band. Kid Rock... mmmm bop mmm bop... dooby doop doop doop Kid Rock.

Never fails

I like to think that I have a pretty good and diverse music collection. I have cool friends, what can I say. But I'll hand someone my ipod and say "just play whatever... it's all my music, so I am going to like it." They'll inevitably pick something like Miley Cyrus Party in the USA. I don't really have a problem with that. I mean, I do kinda like that song. Admittedly it was a guilty pleasure of mine. It's not like I am listening to it every few days or anything. Or they'll be like "damn..... you have a lot of Madonna, wtf!?" I mean, it's not like she didn't have a hundred hits. I'm sorry but if you have the Immaculate Collection you automatically have 40 Madonna songs. Just never fails that I'll hand someone my ipod and they pick out the three songs I would like least like to listen to.

New Years Resolutions

Last year I made a list of about 30 or 40 things I wanted to accomplish in the new year. I may have been a little too ambitious, but I ended up accomplishing maybe half of the things I said I was going to do. (believe me, the list was way too ambitious. Half sounds bad but it wasn't as bad as it sounds) This year I revised my list with some new things, and some of the same old things that I didn't accomplish last year. It's still ambitious but much more reasonable, and I am determined to do them all. I think everyone should try it. It works when you write them down and have to look at them everyday. Last weekend I saw two musicals! In one weekend! Doesn't sound that exciting to most of you, I know, but I wanted to see at least two musicals this year and I accomplished it in the same weekend. That part is kind of disappointing, but I can still see more later in the year. I know what you guys are thinking too, "mike joined a gay gym, and now he's going to musicals? WTF?!" All I can say is, that I am very secure with myself. Anyway, I also went to a pretty sweet singing competition last Wednesday. One of our clients is the Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corp. and they are holding an american idol style competition for their jazz fest in June. Took this sweetass picture there.

Things that make you go hmm.

Are we human or are we dancers? One of the worst lines in any song, ever... I think we are humans, and we can be dancers if we want to or we've had enough to drink. Pretty sure they aren't exclusive. But Mike, you have to be a human if you are a dancer. Not true. One time during the holidays when my dog was a puppy, she bunched up her dog bed and began humping it. It was a little awkward since everyone in the family was kinda hanging around her at the time. We all kinda were sheepishly laughing, knowing full well what was happening. My grandmom says through her tears of laughter, "look at baci, she's dancing!" And now anytime I see a dog humping anything, I say it's dancing.
And the other line that I pretty much hate, that deplorable Kings of Leon song...Ugh, say what you will about them, but that "sex is on fire" song, as catchy as it may be is terrible. If your sex is on fire, you are either doing it wrong or it's herpes... Or so I have heard..
